I am happily reading my way through my 3rd Discworld novel in 3 weeks! This one is simply the next book Pratchett wrote after the first two, because reading chronologically is easiest to me at this point, and it’s called ‘Equal Rites’. Funnily enough, since I don’t really pay attention to book titles when reading on my kindle, I am just now realising that the title is a play on words. Haha.

This book is a nice departure from the last two with a completely new set of characters (so far, at least). The main character, Eskarina, is a young girl who lives in a small mountain village with her family, including her witchy grandmother. Esk herself has been bestowed with magical powers, but instead of the more ‘womanly’ witching powers, she is destined to be a wizard! So, you can see where the title gets its name.

As I have come to expect, this story is full of wit and imagination, with characters that are likeable and unique. Having a couple of strong female characters is another welcome change from the previous books. In this installment, Pratchett concludes to build out his impressively complex Discworld, and I think one of my favourite parts of this series is being able to picture the many cosy, odd, and enchanting corners of this world that are just waiting to be discovered.

I often struggle with deciding if I should read the new books on my physical TBR or re-read some favorites. Well, I finally caved and decided to re-read Agatha Christie’s “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.” I last read this at the end of 2017 so it has been many years. Regardless, this is still one of the top mysteries that I have read and one I recommend to all! Given that I know the whodunnit, I’m doing my best to pay serious attention to see if I’m able to pick up any small clues that hint the murderer.
