I recently finished the highly anticipated “Onyx Storm” and must admit that it was not a top read. The unfortunate bit – I’ve fallen into a bit of a vibe slump. So rather than picking up another fantasy read to quench my need for an immersive and strong fantasy world, I’ve decided to read a story that takes me to Egypt. I’m currently reading an advanced reading copy of “Nephthys” by Rachel Louise Driscoll. What piqued my initial interest was the Egyptian mythology and the setting, and as someone who loves ‘The Mummy’ movies, it was an obvious book to read.

I really enjoy the short chapters as it makes it easier to continue in the story. Told over two timelines, we come to learn how Clemmie, our FMC, decides to embark on this journey through Egypt. I actually wrote up a different ending to this update but simply had to change it after reading last night. I was finding the pacing a little slow, despite the short chapters but we hit a point where the story took a turn and some mysteries were revealed. Let’s just say I had to convince myself to put the book down because it was past midnight.

As predicted, I have fallen under the Discworld spell and am well on my way to finishing ´The Light Fantastic’ by Terry Pratchet. The novel follows the misadventures of the same characters in the ‘The Colour of Magic’, namely Rincewald and Twoflower.

Now that I am acclimatised to the Discworld and its absolute nonsensical happenings, I find myself laughing out loud at the beautiful ridiculous-ness of it all. There is truly something so cozy about the Discworld — even though it is full of danger at everything turn— and the way Pratchett unveils the never ending adventures of its inhabitants makes me want to discover the Discworld myself!
